Dixie Classic Un-Fair

It was Fair weekend. An excursion to be remembered. Firstly, it took us over an hour from the time we left our house, until we were parked and walking in. (Seems we were trying to arrive as the many Wake Forest fans were trying to escape the same vicinity).
Then, we ate. And ate and ate. I had italian sausage with peppers and onions, 1.5 fried oreos, a fried snickers bar, fried dough, and a candy apple. Lots of fried carbs and refined sugars. Nice.
I spent some cash trying to win a GIANT Nemo at the basketball game, knowing full well that the odds were stacked heavily against me, despite my college basketball career. Seems we played on circular rims at 10 feet and with a little less POP in the ball’s air pressure. Whatev. That’s what happens at a fair.
Anyhoooo…. the highlight (no, it wasn’t the pristine bathrooms) was the Demolition Derby. I think I may have happened upon my calling. How much fun it seems…. Getting cheered on by thousands of rednecks while you ram around a broken old car, spray painted with whatever details you desire. We loved every second. I can’t wait until next year…..

  1. I’m sorry to say that I missed the entire event with the exception of putting up and taking down a beautiful display I did for SHS. No bad food for me…I do enough of that everyday!
Jim thinks he can top your demolition derby experience with the local lawn mower race in Sparta. He thinks it definitely wins the prize for the most rednecks gathered in one location. I missed it this year but will be sure to be in attendance at this spring’s first event!

  2. Wow. Isn’t there some kind of ordinance against that many rednecks in such a small area? Surely there has to be some sort of legislation…
