ok. so i’ve blogged about our three capitol reef adventures. now comes the post about all of our downtime and boring stuff while at capitol reef.
we rolled into town late friday night. we didn’t have any groceries, so as soon as we were set up at our campsite, we went back for dinner at slacker’s burger joint. it was pretty much the only cheap eats place in the town of torrey, utah.

we stayed at the sand creek rv park. it had full hookups so we could shower and flush and do dishes to our hearts content. since we mostly boondock, stay at national/state parks, or in our network at thousand trails, we aren’t used to customer service, so this place was great. it’s owned by a friendly couple from idaho, who stopped by to visit, delivered packages and were full of helpful travel tips. i highly recommend it if you ever find yourself in torrey, utah.

finally, after months of being in areas with fire bans and then super windy spots, we had a campfire. the kids went through an entire bag of marshmallows in about 20 minutes.
so. it got cold at night. (our hose was detached from the pedastal and this was just from the bit of dripping that seems to always take place at the fitting to the camper.)

but while i enjoyed my book and tea, the girls did some “face painting” – which you may have already noticed in previous hiking posts.
we finally busted out the nightmare before christmas, to gear up for halloween, even though i’m not sure we will be doing anything remotely halloweeny at all.
so, i had high hopes for several other hikes and visits to capitol reef, but was taken down by a nasty cold and/or allergies. so, on our last day, i dragged the kids to the visitor center, so they could get their junior ranger badges.
