i’ll be the first to admit. when derek told me that he booked a curling lesson, i was not that excited. i didn’t think it would be an activity our family would enjoy. i couldn’t have been more wrong. the folks at the leelanau curling club made the experience phenomenal. they were so patient and nice. mostly patient. and we learned everything we need to know to take the next steps towards olympic glory.
we kicked things off with some lecture type lessons.
but quickly moved into the hands on learning. there were a lot of things to remember. but we got the hang of it pretty quickly.
i was pleasantly surprised that everyone was willing to give it a try.
hazel was hesitant to try the whole push off the starting blocks and slide across the ice thing, so she walked with a stick at first. but, by the end, she was willing to try and did great.
we also got to do the frantic scrubbing thing. which is sort of fun and actually does less than i actually realized.
we played a few rounds of boys vs girls. and before long, our little introductory lesson was over. we took some super official photos before we left. we look legit.
the curling club is attached to a restaurant that had the very most delicious food ever. and after our long day of miserable boating, lighthouses, laundry, beaches, lighthouses, travel, and beginning our famous and successful curlign careers, it was just what we needed.
