sweet sixteen for sweet maya.

somehow, my pal heather’s youngest kiddo, maya, turned sixteen on christmas. it makes no sense because we were like 30 when she arrived and we are still like 30, so the math isn’t working out. but apparently it’s true. so she asked if i could make a cake for the big sweet sixteen bash, but only if i wouldn’t be too stressed, which hahaha, of course i can’t do that.

so she agreed to let me make the cake AND be stressed because she’s my friend and i like to operate with a baseline level of stress. like microdosing stress. (also, i think i’m delirious from marathon blog posting).

THEN. the party was postponed because of weather. and rescheduled for ike’s actual birthday. which ended up not being a big deal because ike doesn’t care about such things and was happy to eat bakery bought gluten free treats and hang with his gamer bros.

ok. so. the cake….

it was pink inside. and you can see the pink hearts. and i learned a new skill, painting buttercream lettering with gold lusterdust. (it was a little finicky and required meticulousness, but i think it turned out great for my first go ’round).

i struggled a bit with smoothing the buttercream, as i often do, so i’m a little disappointed with that part. but no one complained.

also, since it had to serve so so so many people (maya is a beloved kid), we decided to have cupcakes with gold hearts to supplement a smaller cake, for aesthetics and ease and the like.

i’m told the cake was a hit. and maya was beautiful. and the party was a raging success. and heather sent me a few pics of the cake in the wild. 🙂

and that’s the story of the sweet sixteen cake and cupcakes for lovely maya.
who is not sixteen in my head.
