you’re a wizard, hazel.

well. this kid is eleven. and if you’re a wizard, eleven is the birthday that you find out you’re invited to hogwarts. so it was only fitting that this wizard have a very harry potter themed birthday celebration. or two.

i wasn’t able to get a good pic before school, so had to settle for a quick glamour shot in the parking lot when i dropped her off. still lovely, if i do say so myself. and looking so very grown.

for the first decade of hazel’s young life, i managed to squeeze in an epic party during the already wild holiday season. this year, i talked her into having a smaller family only party on her actual birthday, with a big fun friend sleepover during christmas break. she was down for two parties. 🙂

i kept the family cakery situation pretty chill, with some hogwarts house colors cupcakes and a few simple logos. the grandlidboms came. cupcakes were eaten. gifts were given. her birthday was a success. she also had chick fil a and krispy kreme donuts (courtesy of her older brother, a krispy kreme employee) at school. so. a lot of sugar is all i’m saying.

after christmas, when everything was settled back down, we began prep for the epic harry potter themed birthday party. banners were hung. cakes were made. party favors were ordered. and most importantly, a posse of friends were in attendance.

six girls and one boy (trusty friend cole) came over for pizza and junk food and cake and shenanigans. it was a wild time. not sure if you know this, but fifth grade is approximately when things start to get a little squirrely in the girl-boy dynamic.

a lot of sugar was consumed. which makes things even more unruly. but i think these kiddos had a blast.

eventually, some of them departed, but a large contigent piled up on mattresses and the living room sectional and slept peacefully through the night. hahahhahahahaa. no. no they did not. they were awake late. and then again in the middle of the night. and then up super early. but all was good. they had fun.

after a pancake breakfast, the kids started to be collected by their respective families and order was restored. energy, less so. but order.

and like that. i have an eleven year old kid. the YOUNGEST kid. sheesh.

and. because i’m super lazy. here’s the copy from my instagram tribute to the crazelnut:

the crazelnut is eleven today and i’m not 100% ok with it. i also failed to get a good pic before we were off to school, so she was gracious enough to let me get a shot in the parking lot when i dropped her off.
this kid, the one who completed our fam, is still hilarious, weird, easy going, kind, generous, and smart. she loves art, music, josh allen, animals, harry potter, basketball (!!!), and anything purple. she adores her older siblings, even if they don’t always appreciate her affections.
