upon getting settled into our little airbnb in the adirondacks, we planned out our week of adventures. first up, a quick little hike up to some balanced rocks. there’s a lot of “balanced rocks” hikes in this country and i feel like we have been on four or five at this point.
this one happened to be about three miles and somewhere in the 900-1100′ of elevation gain range, which meant it was a little steep in some spots, which made for a bit of dismay. it was also pretty washed out and slippery and treacherous.

we took a little rest break on a conveniently placed fallen tree before the final push to the top. look at all those happy faces.

it was pretty windy and chilly up there at the actual balanced rocks. we hopped around and explored for a bit.

the balanced rocks were cool and all. but then there was also this view. um. ok, adirondacks, i see you. (so of course we took a million pics at this point.)

anna and i chilled out on the edge for a few. ate our little snackies. savored the moment or whatever.

once we were done exploring and taking pictures for instagram, we began our trek back down. all of the treachery was more treacherous on the way down. we took it slow.

we were pleased when it leveled off and we could just stroll back out. our previous worlds grumpiest hiker suddenly led the way.

i guess here’s some pics from the trail. something about trail blazes/markers gets me. and we spotted a pink lady slipper flower.

obviously, all of those sort of happy hiking faces were not a free gift from the ghost of john muir. there was bribery involved. always. after the hike, we hit up stewarts for the first of MANY ice cream bribery payouts. the special that week was a free waffle cone upgrade.

so, ADK hike number one is in the books….
stay tuned for the next adventure.
