halloween quilt #6. :/.

it’s no secret that i haven’t had much sewing mojo for quite some time. a few blocks here and there. small projects. but i really haven’t had much juice. at all. but, turns out, being hobbled by an injury that forces me to rest a little bit (and not run off to hike every chance i get) is conducive to getting one’s sewing motivation back on track.

with halloween approaching, the obvious choice was to make another halloween quilt. you would think five would be a sufficient number of quilts for a family of five, but you would think wrong. i had an overflowing bin of halloween fabric, a vision of a black/gray/white/pinks/oranges color scheme, and i can never resist a good bear paw. so, i was off to the races.

i would like to report that i didn’t buy any more halloween fabric in the process of making this quilt, but that would be a lie. but i kept it minimal. before i knew it, i had 26 blocks and it was decision time. i liked how they looked without a sashing, but i knew all of those seams would be bulky. so, in the end, i went with black sashing and neon green cornerstones. and then of course i made myself insane (but saved a lot of money and used up a lot of fabric) by choosing to piece the back. and then, the baste, complete with aerial photography.

i had hoped to get the top done before derek and i went on our last hurrah vacation, so i could send it off to be quilted. but it didn’t happen, so when we got home, i quilted it myself. all over loops. so creative. so innovative. i bound it up in more lime green while watching halloween movies with crazelnut.

fresh out of the dryer, these two were glad to give it a quality assurance test.

even though i completed it with plenty of time to enjoy it before halloween, there was still the matter of getting a good photoshoot and getting it posted to instagram before the bell tolled on october 31. on one particularly pretty fall day, i convinced my pal kate to go to quarry park to see if we could get some good shots there. (there was also coffee, cupcakes, and an antique mall involved).

we tried our best….

but, i still felt like i needed a little bit better. so, isaac was called in, to put his genetics to good use. his height, long arms, and the fall decorated front porch saved the day.

some close ups of a few blocks… and the pieced back.

this is my new favorite halloween quilt. and brings our total to six. and this time, i actually did what i always say i’m going to do, and purged my halloween fabric once it was finished. so, maybe there won’t be a seventh next year?
