nineteen years of ike-zilla

hard to believe it, but this guy has been on the scene for nineteen whole years.

for his birthday, he arranged a flag football game with an assortment of his pals. then, as sometimes happens in January, the weather was quite uncooperative. but, they found a time to squeeze it in, despite the frigid temps, and i’m told it was a lovely time.

i stayed behind to handle the cake decorating duties. even though we had recently suffered our annual playoff heartbreak the weekend before, he still requested a james cook cake. he can’t actually eat the cake, so i also decorated a tiny slice of gluten free cake from the grocery store for him.

our big gift to him was tickets to the sabres v canes in raleigh, a few days before his birthday. the sabres are actually quite good this year, which hasn’t happened in like 20 years, so it made the crushing playoff loss slightly easier to take. we had the best time, even if the canes won 2-1.

ike was pretty stoked that we were allowed to get all the way down to the glass to watch warmups. it brought joy to my heart to see him so excited to see his favorite players from just feet away.

it was a weird afternoon game on a weekday, so it was marketed as “family day”, which meant the sabres mascot (sabertooth) was in attendance for fun and shenanigans.

and. to wrap up this official birthday post, here’s some pics of ike over the years.

it’s been a wild ride with this guy. hoping this 20th year is his best one yet.
