long cold boring january.

i’ll warn you in advance. this might be the most boring month recap post of my 20+ years of blogging.

for starters, like half of the month was snow days for the kids. some legit. some not. by the end of it, they were losing their minds a little.

just before the new year, i got a cortisone shot for my nagging plantar fasciitis. this gave me a bit of relief at the gym, but i was still stuck on the stupid bike for cardio.

after a full month or so of dietary indiscretions (the birthday to thanksgiving to hazels birthday to christmas pipeline never fails), i was back on track. not really a new years resolution. i feel like maybe i’m past those days finally, and this was just a new years timed course correction.

january is also nfl postseason time, also known in these parts as “how are the bills going to break our hearts this year?” time. they did not disappoint. overtime thriller. heartbreak achieved. with wings. (they at least won the first playoff game, giving us that little boost of false hope).

so. as you may have read, i am in nursing school at winston salem state university. after a year of taking prereqs. and a long application process, classes finally began in january. and it was pretty intense. the weather situation didn’t really help matters. any waking minutes i had available in january were spent reading and studying. oh. and trying to figure out what i was supposed to be reading and studying because you guys. the state of education right now. not. good. maybe i’m just old.

before classes started, when i wasn’t running around getting shots and drug tests and taking cpr classes and registering for all the testing services and hospital compliance things and, well, you get it. i managed to squeeze in a last minute hang with an old pal. we hit up ardmore coffee, where i used the bathroom for the first time and saw this funny sign.

sometimes i had a minute to snuggle with this best girl. but quickly.

in other news, anna dyed her hair green. and then we went to the used book store and perused old records like anyone with dyed green hair is wont to do. but her room still looks like this.

and finally. there was still basketball for the crazelnut. when it wasn’t blizzarding.

and. can we just take a moment to acknowledge the full majestic wonder of this pic. the dramatic sunrise sky. my unicorn jeep cherokee. a publix parking lot. (this was actually on my first day of classes, surely a sign of positive moments to come??)

january flew right by. i am typing this in mid to late march and i can barely remember it.
