a quilt for my college roomie

for the last 15-ish years, my college roommate and basketball teammate and her family have lived just down the road in greensboro. you would think this would mean we got together all the time, but alas, sadly, we didn’t make the most of this opportunity.
then. her husband got his dream job, in nyc, and off they went.

this seemed as good a time as any to finally make her a quilt. she gave me complete free reign, but i managed to drag some info out of her. she liked blues, teals, and orange. and stars. clearly, i was going to make it scrappy. and wonky stars. it all came together pretty quickly. and it was so fun to work in as many fabrics with fun prints of things i knew she liked.

mandy also happens to be a giant. so this thing was gigantic. and got the rolled up rows of loops quilt treatment.

ruby was so very helpful in getting it properly photographed.

i enlisted derek (standing on a tree stump) to get a full frontal view.

my friend cynthia made a cute little label to sew onto the back, a detail i usually neglect. i hope she loves it and its a reminder of our friendship, despite our ability to make actual time for each other during these busy years of parenthood. and we always like to laugh that i ended up a quilter. college me would punch now me.
