october highlights, lowlight, and just regular lights, i guess.

whelp. it’s fully fall now. october has come and gone.
allow me to tell you about it.

first up. the gym. i actually changed gyms this month. long boring story. but didn’t feel like i was getting the value i was paying for. and privately owned gym was planning to move into a building nearby that was once a golds gym, then a church (with some scandal), and now a gym again, i decided to make the leap. the new location has a “posing room” hahahaha. i love it so far, so let’s see how things go….

so i suppose this is as good a time as any to post my obligatory food pics. i haven’t been taking as many pics of my delicious fare lately, so maybe this obsession is winding down. but, for the sake of balance, please also note the garbage food we eat for bills games, as well as a sampling of the sort of cookies i make and eat 900 of every weekend, essentially undoing my weekdays of hard work.

ok. that’s out of the way. next up. while derek and i were on our last hurrah getaway, anna went to a homecoming dance with her pals.

as anna careens towards sweet sixteen and her drivers license, we have been brainstorming how to handle our vehicle situation. ($$$!!!). the thing that seemed to make the most sense was to get a used vehicle for me and put her in the outback. i decided that this was my opportunity to drive my 1990s dream car, a boxy jeep cherokee. we found this 1996 model on fb marketplace and it seemed like a good deal, so it’s all mine now. i love it.

my pal sara without an h and i were able to sneak away one day for a pumpkin spice latte and a visit to robertson farms at their new (to me?) location. we really went over the top with the fall vibes, fully embracing our basic white girl heritage. oh. and she came bearing really cool gifts from alaska!!

let’s see. i convinced my friend kate to go on a little adventure day with me. and by adventure i mean, try a new bakery and coffee shop. and then hit up quarry park to take pics of my halloween quilt. and then do some antique mall shopping.

upon finishing my halloween quilt, i was struck with the urge to purge. i have fabric coming out of my ears. also, i have wanted to make up a bunch of fun cloth napkins for our family. so, i turned approximately 14 yards of fabric into napkins, killing two birds with one stone. i even made up a set for derek’s mom’s birthday, using some christmas fabric i have been hoarding for far too long. with this new found zest for purging and organizing gave me momentum to finish up some old projects and i finally turned this fpp hot cocoa block (from two years ago) into a mug rug.

the last field hockey game was early in october, but it was officially over with a little end of season banquet at a community center. anna absolutely loved field hockey and made great friends and i think it was a really cool experience for her to be on a team.

it’s weird having all of these tweens, teens, and young adults. i am way less involved in their halloween plans. sort of sad how fast it all went by. anna has been volunteering at a local haunted woods type of place through her drama club, so she spent many a night in bloody gory costumes, scaring the local youths. hazel went trunk or treating with a posse of friends before spending the night in a tent with several of them.

on actual halloween, anna went trick or treating a crew of friends ive never met.

once again, i took hazel to my friend jen’s neighborhood so she could trick or treat with her friend maddie and maddie’s pal dev. it definitely felt like it was maybe the last time i would be needed for this activity, so i tried to savor it, despite my raging plantar fasciitis. also. i have no clue what her costume is. she ordered some stuff on amazon and seemed happy with it. when we got home, she humored me and we watched it’s the great pumpkin charlie brown.

and lastly. some random stuff. maddie and hazel had a little afterschool playdate. and dressed up like johnny and ponyboy from the outsiders. fall decor took awhile to get fully assembled but man it looks good with the new house exterior. like a spooky mansion.

a LOT of october campfires.

and. of course. ruby.

whew. that was long.
but. that’s october 2025.
time. is. flying.
