beauty school dropout.

last fall, the annababy (formerly introverted and averse to attention) stepped out of her comfort zone and auditioned for a play with her high school. this spring, they were performing the grease musical, and she was part of the ensemble cast.

derek and i, along with the grandlidboms, attended the opening night. the kids all did such a great job. hard to get good pics in the theater lighting from afar, but here’s some attempts.

beauty school dropout was for sure the highlight of our evening. both because anna had a little special part (as a makeup brush) in it. and because the teen angel performance was so good. funny and pretty amazing. i’m hardly a musical expert though.

while i never anticipated having a theater kid, i have to admit it’s pretty fun. i love seeing her so happy doing what she loves, surrounded by friends she adores.

we took all of the obligatory post show bouquet photos. 🙂

some of my friends joined me again on saturday for their final show. this one was even better. they added some sillier (faux) improvisations. and i think the confidence level and timing seemed on point.

the post show presentations and photos and such took a million years. we quickly snagged her for a fam pic before leaving her to party all evening and night with her posse.

this was sort of a weird full circle moment for me. in the 1990s my teammates and i were obsessed with this movie and soundtrack. i had no idea it was preparing me for motherhood (probably quite the opposite, actually). i seriously couldn’t believe how quickly i unlocked each and every lyric from the dark recesses of my long term memory.

also. if you’re wondering about how anna’s theater career has evolved, here’s a pic from a preschool chorus concert. she stood there and cried the entire time. turned towards me, imploring me with her tears to remove her from this torture.

so. yeah. cool times for Anna.
