once upon a time, i was thrift shopping with my pal sara without an h. i found a hoodie that i sort of liked. and she was like “hey that’s one of my colors”… so. i bought it. and an idea was hatched.
with her birthday coming up, i knew i wanted to upcycle the hoodie in some way. i thought it would be so cool to make a super scrappy dresden plate. i had the perfect middle fabric to pull colors from, but then i had to narrow rest of the fabrics down to 20 perfectly scrappy matches. this was my original pull:

at first, i planned to put the dresden on the front, but i would have to split it across the zipper and i didn’t think that would look good. by putting it on the back, i was able to make it a lot bigger and bolder. i got to work assembling the plate.

i wasn’t sure how i wanted to stitch it down to the back, but a well timed road trip gave me all of the time i needed to hand quilt it while i performed co pilot duties.

i used a blue drawstring for the hood (it didn’t come with one) and finally remembered to use some of my little sweary tags on the sleeve. i also felt like it needed something else on the front, so i reverse appliqued a little heart onto the chest. i think it came out great.

i was so excited to give it to my pal. she’s a fellow apperciator of thrifting, handmade goods, vintage, and whimsy. she loved it.

i think i will be doing much more of this sort of thing. i mean. the hoodie was like $1. and the fabric was already mine, so it was free. all it took was a million hours on a road trip. (and some stupid figuring out of things because i apparantly can’t research the internet before i start).
