on these long summer road trips, derek usually has to work a few days here and there. on one such day, a beautiful one at that, we determined that it would be a good day for me to embark on a solo adventure, leaving him to work, and the kids to have a lazy day of gaming, reading, playing, and some fishing and canoeing (our airbnb was on the water).
i opted for a long drive to the porcupine mountain wilderness, affectionately known as the porkies, specifically to the lake of the clouds. i hiked the escarpment trail, a seven-ish mile path that wound in and out of the woods along a ridge between lake of the clouds and lake superior. it was pretty muddy and seemingly relatively flat, but all of the ups and downs added up to about 1400′ elevation over the course of the hike.
the views were pretty fantastic and the company was even better. haha. and now, without further ado, here’s some pics. (i took a million but they all look the same when you actually get home and view them. just incrementally different vantage points each time.)
proof that i was actually there. two selfies and a feet/lunch pic.
it was a lovely hike, but i ended up hobbling out, after contracting a bit of plantar fasciitis on the hike with anna at pictured rocks (i blame the weird way we had to walk to avoid all the mud). i was relieved to finally get back to the parking lot and make the long (peaceful) drive back to the airbnb.
that night, ike and i cozied up around a laptop to watch game seven of the stanley cup playoffs. he’s a huge hockey guy now, so that’s a fun development. and the 80s airbnb did not have a television.
