i say it every year. “next year i’m not making so many (or any) cookies”. and then next year rolls around. and i start small. and then i keep adding. and before i know it, i’ve made even more cookies and more varieties than the year before. i would hate to see what would happen on a year i didn’t vow to not make cookies.
anyways. i don’t have a ton of pics of the baking of the non-decorated cookies. i was just in complete production line mode. all joy was removed. ha. but i do have a pic of the easiest (and possibly most delicious) no bake oatmeal drop cookies. and the most labor intensive (and also quite delicious) cranberry orange pinwheels.
i also made a jillion cut out cookies. i had some struggles with the dough. like i maybe forgot some ingredients to one batch and tried to add them at the end. the consistencies were weird. but whatever. these cookies are meant to be wild and colorful. not taste great. as usual, we set up with a fully stocked arsenal of sprinkles and faux royal icing colors.
and then, the girls and i got to work.
as always, there was a heavy leaning towards buffalo bills themed cookies. josh allen in both a throwback 90s red helmet and the red alternate jersey (that would be worn the for the next day’s game). rookie keon coleman had a cookie debut and then we had the brilliant idea to make a “shnowman” cookie to represent fan favorite dion dawkins.
towards the end of decorating, we were down to some of the cookies that tend to be great ideas when we start, but we get tired of as time wears on. one such cookie is the snowglobe. and then inspiration struck. having just witnessed the “snowglobe” game where josh allen scored a diving touchdown at the pylon (after a pass to amari cooper who then lateralled it back to josh, so that he was the thrower and receiver of the touchdown), i knew what i had to do.

anna leaned in pretty heavily to her current obsession with the outsiders. but snoopy and mr. rogers made appearances. and a throwback to hamilton. and a tribute to this year’s internet craze, the little debbie christmas tree cakes.
hazel was very meticulous and worked very hard on her very detailed and sometimes very strange cookies. creepy marge simpson. and a rainbow cat mug were my faves. but a lot of creativity and general weirdness was on display for sure. and she even made a buffalo sabre for ike. so proud.
i’m never quite sure how to properly photograph our days work. i want to show them all. but i also don’t want to be moving cookies around for days. and our kitchen lighting is dumb. so, here they are, just all laid out. feel free to zoom and enjoy.
the whole point of all of this baking is to make gift plates for friends and family. and we take a couple of big platters to the grandlidbom swedish christmas celebration. and here they are. now i want a cookie.
i was able to gift most of the cookies and have an appropriate amount for our fam. maybe i took a whole lot of them to sewingly yours the day after christmas.
but next year. i’m doing something different.
