when your one and only local hike friend asks if you can go on a spontaneous-ish hiking trip, you make it happen. (it wasn’t that hard, actually, i don’t have that much going on). heather and i had been to elk knob a year or so ago, but it was in the winter and super cold and snowy and so windy at the top we could barely stand it, so we were pretty stoked to give this one another go in the beautiful spring conditions.

i didn’t take many action shots, but the flowers were popping so of course we stopped for them a million times.

at the top, we had excellent, windless views of the blue ridge mountains. albeit a bit cloudy.

but, it blew off quickly and we got busy documenting our heroics (and nature’s beauty) asap.

while we had some lunch, we made a few little friends.

we made quick work of the trip down, chatting our little hearts out.
on the way home, we noticed a weird little shop, devoted to russian nesting dolls. of course we stopped. and learned all about nesting dolls and this particular shop. it’s apparently the largest internet supplier of russian nesting dolls. there were so many weird and fun collections. outside, we posed for a pic with this giant lovely lady and got back on the road.

another lovely day. outside. in nature. with a friend. good convos. and a giant russian nesting doll. what more can you ask for?
