ny summer road trip.

well. before i get to that batavia post, i need a spot to put all of the photos of the in between moments of our adirondack week. the travels, the airbnb, the pit stops, etc. i’ll make it quick. first of all. here we are, all loaded up and officially hitting the road. (we were just glad to have isaac with us, even if he refused to cooperate for this pic).

the travel day to the adirondacks was long and not fun. i ate an entire bag of taco flavored sunflower seeds and tried desperately to stay dialed into my diet as much as possible. even with the delicious treats of sheetz tempting me. the kids lounged and read and gamed and texted and slept. rough life.

we had a third driver for this road trip, which was nice, but also meant i was relegated to the second row for a short stretch. (i didn’t mind).

upon our arrival, we found a nearby diner for a not super delicious dinner. but. at least there was a cool sign?

we stayed in a random hotel for the night, near our first hike at the lemon squeeze. we hoped for a nutritious-ish breakfast, but alas, it was mostly carbs. and not the good kind.

after our hike, we stopped in nearby kingston, ny, where we hit up “dallas hot weiners” solely because of the name. it was pretty good, even if i skipped the hot weiners and went with a chicken gyro. we walked around a bit and ended up getting coffee at a really cute and cool bookstore, but we still had quite a bit of driving left, so we didn’t stay long.

while anna visited a long lost (relocated) friend, we stopped for groceries for the week. i accidentally bought a 12 pack of hemstroughts bakery halfmoon cookies, a nostalgia food from my college days in utica. eventually, we made it to our airbnb. it was a cute little house. nothing fancy. but cheap. and in the heart of the adirondacks. our basecamp for the week.

a LOT of sandwiches for our adventures. a lot.

guess who did not thoroughly sunblock before a kayaking trip?

after one of our days of adventures, you can rest assured that we stopped a little road side maple syrup stand and purchased a JUG of my favorite nectar.

and now. this hiking prep pic because i don’t know where else to put it. the story is. i had prepared for a GIGANTIC long epic hike one night and got all of this packed. and then anna said she would go with me. and i was pretty sure that the hike was too much for her. (i maybe thought it was too much for me). so, we went on the indian head hike instead. and i took less with me. 🙂 but i saved the pic, thinking i would do the big fat hike on the last day. and then my pal andrea was able to go, and did not think she could do it, so we did phelps mountain. and, well, i never actually took all of this stuff. but. the pic is cool?

lastly. please enjoy this photo from a deli in syracuse that we stopped at on our way to orchard park from the adk. everything was sooooo good. when i ordered my reuben, the dude (owner?) said “whole or half” and i shrugged and said “whole”. he looked at me. and said, “i think half”. so i got half. and guess what. he was right. he followed up later to confirm his decision making was accurate. i’m pretty sure anna could have done with half (sub, second from the right) as well. 🙂

anyways. that’s the photos i have from between the adventures. i’m sure there’s more to tell, but my memory only operates off of old pics.
