pictured rocks national lakeshore

our first big really super epic (expensive) adventure on this trip was a sea kayaking tour of pictured rocks national lakeshore. on the day it was scheduled, the weather wasn’t looking so hot and we weren’t even sure it would take place. but the crew was optimistic, so we loaded up into the ferry to the drop in spot. the visibility was terrible and we were worried that the super epic expensive adventure would be a disappointing bust. but, after sending out a scout, the tour guides assured us it would be great, so we geared up and floated out. (we had high hopes that our resident despiser of water activities would join us, but alas, he did not.)

they were not wrong. as we approached the picturesque rocks of pictured rocks lakeshore, the visibility cleared right up, and we were mesmerized. i paired up with hazelnet and derek cruised with anna. hazel was not a huge fan and gave me a lot of direction assistance. we went in and out of caves, through tunnels, and under arches. we learned the history and geography of the area. our guide was super knowledgeable and fun and patient and nice. i’m going to spare you a play by play account of the trip and just get to the photos…

it turned out to be a beautiful day on the water. but, we heard some distant rumblings on occasion and then suddenly there was a bit of urgency from our guides to get back to the boat and then back to the shore. (no urgency from the reader girls, however). they timed it just right, because before we could walk from the dock to the gift shop, it opened up on us.

back in munising (the town where the sea kayak company was located), we hit up some local spots for gifts, coffees, books, snacks, stickers, etc. not polished rocks.

this was definitely a really cool experience and would end up being one of the top highlights of our trip.
