owls head lookout

for our final family adventure in the adirondacks, we opted for a 5.2 mile hike to owl’s head lookout. it was pretty wooded and buggy and a mostly steady incline the entire way until a final steep scramble to get us to the top. it clocked in around 1200′ elevation gain total.

obligatory foot bridge photo series:

sometimes it was less bridgey and more rock hoppy.

lots of muggy rest breaks to reapply bug spray and eat snacks. also. we encountered a very fun friend.

we arrived at the top and were very pleasantly surprised to have the entire place to ourselves. (maybe not that surprised since we were the only car in the parking lot and didnt see any other hikers along the way, but you never know).

we got busy taking all of the pictures. we couldn’t help ourselves. this place was so photogenic.

even this guy, who is not a huge enthusiast of heights and exposure, got in on the action.

always ready for the photos.

hazel mostly steered clear of the scary places but came through for the coolest photo of the day.

we ate our lunches and snacks. took the feet pics. maybe stretched out and closed our eyes for a bit.

on the hike out, hazel assembled a nice little wildflower bouquet. on the way home, we managed to find another stewarts for ice cream, but this time i settled for a (sad) quest bar.

it was a very nice day. the kids were all very agreeable. the weather cooperated nicely. the views were perfection. the trail was quiet. i couldn’t ask for much more.
