in my coneflower block era.

all the way back in spring, i became mildly obsessed with an fpp coneflower block that i happened upon whilst perusing instagram. originally, i only had plans to use it for some totes i made for hazel’s teachers. but i then i just kept going and made a few gifts for my quilty friends in may.

well, that did not quell my coneflower fpp passion, and i just kept making them. some for unknown purposes, some for commissioned gifts. and i can assure you this is not the last of them. but it seemed a good a time as any to compile them all to date.

these are so fun to make. i love picking out the colors and fussy cutting all of the perfect little bits of fabric. as i fabric shop, i’m always thinking about these blocks with my purchases.

the red flower was created for my sister julie. she’s a fan of reds and yellows and bold things. she is a graphic designer and lives in mexico city, so it was easy to get a feel for her vibe. she requested a pillow and i used the most artwork themed backing fabric. and, is there ever a time when black and white stripe binding doesn’t elevate the final product? also. please note the usage of a long hoarded heather ross bee scrap to the left of the yellow middle part of the flower. does that have a name?

my friend kate commissioned me to make a carolina themed tote for her daughter who attends unc chapel hill. we agonized over the most perfect tarheel blue colored fabrics, and i think we did ok. but to be safe, i used tarheel blue straps and carolina themed fabric on the back, for good measure (not shown). anyways. snuck in a few easter eggs for the harry potter loving, nerdy, coffee loving kiddo.

i went with aqua for the flower for a gift for my boss/owner of the shop, teresa. i turned it in to an oversized zippy pouch project bag and she was super pleased with it. she even hugged me. not bad for two non-huggers.

so, this brings us up to date with fpp coneflowers. it’s currently february 2025 as i type this, so i can confidently tell you there’s more to come, very soon.
