stupid new house face lift.

you may recall, i am not a huge fan of our stupid gross brady bunch mansion. when we rushed the decision to settle in wsnc, we chose this house for it’s size, property, cost, and potential. then slowly, we began chipping away at all the things. paint. carpet. lighting. popcorn ceilings. a new deck. etc.

well, our most recent upgrade was a big one. we finally got the exterior painted. i LOATHED the brown. everything was just so blah and brown. and despite our realtor telling us that it would never have to be stained or painted because it was magical california cedar, “a major selling point”, it turns out, it needs to be painted every 5-7 years. so, here we are. anyways. here’s some before photos, from the listing of the house when we bought it.

so. very brown. sooooooooooo….
i agonized over the color. there were a lot of things to consider. the style of the house. the wooded surroundings. the roof color. the trim color. etc. in the end, i chose “after the storm”, a sort of dark navy/gray color. and then black for the windows, trim, gutters and doors.

i literally could not be happier with it. everytime i pull into the driveway, i am surprised at how much better it looks.

the color looks different in every sort of lighting and i had a hard time getting a good pic that really shows the navy-ish-ness of it.

it is definitely no longer bradybunch-esque and has more beetlejuice/tim burton vibes now.

the back porch was overhauled too. we had the ceiling and floors painted white, to brighten things up. and derek replaced all of the screens and took out the railing that tended to collect clutter and pollen. now we just need some new deck and porch furniture, but our camp gear will do for now.

this facelift definitely went a long way in changing the whole feel of this house. now we just need to get rid of the burnt orange kitchen and maybe i’ll want to live here.
