Yesterday, we had the school’s first pep rally of the ’04-’05 school year. It seemed a little disorganized, but maybe it’s just that I’m a teacher and the last one I attended was my senior year of high school.
Then, Derek and I went out to the Forbush Falcons/Elkin Bucking Elks football game. It was interesting. Again, it didn’t have the same feel as when I was at Good Old Batavia, but it could just be my difference in years. There was one obvious difference: Smoking is an accepted activity at a North Carolina High School Sports Venue. It’s probably not a battle worth fighting, I guess.
Anyhow, we left with a couple minutes to go, but Forbush was ahead 20-7, and Elkin was on the verge of their first loss in 22 straight games. Go ‘Bush.
Smoking is a YADKIN COUNTY activity! That’s what happens when you grow up in an area where tobacco is the primary cash crop for so many years! The problem is that it is so acceptable. Our fastest growing cash crop is now grapes with all the vineyards. What does that lead the next generation to for a favorite activity?
You and Derek are the cutest couple! I enjoyed seeing you two together at the game but hate that I missed the big victory. I think next Friday night could just be THE ONE all the ‘BUSH fans have been waiting for…let’s hope so!
Yeah. All the way at Starmount. I think Derek may have had his fill of high school sports. I think you have to have liked it the first time around to appreciate it when you’re OLD. 🙂
He’d better get over it, in time for hoops season!! Do they smoke in the gym in Yadkin County????
No smoking in school buildings…PERIOD! They used to though! The players would be heavily engaged in the game while their parents and friends puffed away in the lobby. I guess those were considered the “good ol’ days”!
My crazy husband is headed right into Gaston as he goes to Myrtle Beach today for his Dupont World Amateur Handicap Championship. Let’s hope he has one last shot at fame!
Batavia doesn’t start school for nine days (I’m so teeecited!) and we won’t have homecoming/pep assemblies until the end of september! I’m a senior!!!

You’re not supposed to smoke on any school grounds that are state funded. My mom and dad are/were teachers and they banned it from any grounds that the state pays money into. You’re not even supposed to smoke at college ball games, if they are state supported universities.
Shame, shame……
hello….
didn’t you read the other comments. it’s YADKIN county.
