easter twentytwentyfiver.

we hosted the easter festivities at our (stupid new house) again this year. which was obviously just my big fat excuse to make one million easter themed treats and sweets.

despite plans to make two cakes and decorate sugar cookies with the girls, i decided it would be necessary to also make massive brown butter everything but the kitchen sink cookies. it really doesn’t make much sense. but they were delicious. and i ate lots of dough, spare ingredients, and actual cookies.

we didn’t dye easter eggs this year, which was only a little sad. last year, it sort of felt like it might be our last time. and then this year, with eggs costing zillions of dollars, we called it. but, we were sure to continue a tradition that we started on our first easter in the house. it was covid times. 2020. and i bought a ridiculous amount of sprinkles and we had our first easter cookie decorating extravaganza. (after i looked up the post, i realized the volume of sprinkles pales in comparison to my current collection, and this activity, like most others, get more and more extra as the years go by).

i did a terrible job of documenting all of our cookies. i only took pics of some of them individually as we finished them. the bills and josh allen had less of a presence than usual. it is the off season after all. anna continued with her quirky nonsense. we made some beauties. and a few nods to our respective educational institutions.

and now. for those previously mentioned cakes. i made a carrot cake and a coconut cake this year. the carrot cake is a tried and true recipe. i added candied pecans this year, because go big or go home. this was my first coconut cake and it was pretty good i think. but the carrot cake was still the fave. hazel helped with the decor and i think we make quite a team.

the egg hunt looked a little different this year. it’s hard when the three older kids are not really kids anymore. i was trying to keep it fair, but still fun, challenging, and competitive. we had a big prize tables and the kids hunted for eggs with numbered tickets that determined the order they would select prizes. it didn’t work out quite like i had hoped, but the kids (adults) mostly seemed pleased with their hauls.

lastly, we assembled for a family photo, all of us about 10 lbs heavier. or maybe that was just me.

and another easter is in the books. we are a long way from these olden days:
