SNOW DAY!!!

Posted on January 26, 2004February 10, 2011by sarah

It snowed a few inches over the weekend. Just enough to send the region into a frenzy. School was cancelled (for me) and work was cancelled (for Derek). Word on the street is, there’s gonna be some sleet and freezing rain, so I think I might be off tomorrow, too. Before you start thinking that […]

Sunshine State

Posted on January 20, 2004April 17, 2015by sarah

After school Friday, Derek and I made a spur of the moment decision to drive to St. Petersburg, Florida, to see my Dad’s side of the family. We made it there in 10 hours of drive time and spent the weekend and came back yesterday. (Hopefully, soon, I’ll get a biography entry ready for it.) […]

“F” word

Posted on January 12, 2004February 10, 2011by sarah

Today a student said the “F” word to me. Well, he didn’t finish it, and believed that was reason enough not to be punished. He was wrong.

Another weekend, come and gone…

Posted on January 11, 2004February 10, 2011by sarah

It’s another Sunday night. Getting set for my first full week of school with students. Last week I had two teacher work days before the students came back and then a snow day on Friday. It was great. Not much going on this weekend. We watched some football and cleaned up around the house. Pretty […]

Back to work

Posted on January 4, 2004February 10, 2011by sarah

It’s the final hours of “vacation”. Derek goes back to work tomorrow and I start my new job at the Yadkin Success Academy tomorrow. I’m excited and nervous. And — very happy to have a job and something to do with my time. It’s not a typical teaching environment. Small classes, self-paced learning. But, I […]

Back to NC life

Posted on January 2, 2004February 10, 2011by sarah

We are back. Truth is, we’ve been back. I was pretty sick this week (see blog entry: flu), and then we’ve been pretty busy trying to get back in order. NY was a lot of fun. Poor Jake was sick a lot of the time (and likely the reason I was sick). He started puking […]

Heading Home

Posted on December 19, 2003February 10, 2011by sarah

We are leaving today to head to NY for Christmas. I can’t wait. Real snow and cold. Christmas excitement the way I remember from being a kid. Even though it’s not quite the same these days. We’re taking the truck so we don’t get stuck.

Durham Trip

Posted on December 15, 2003February 10, 2011by sarah

We went back to Durham over the weekend to see old friends before Christmas. We had coffee with some of Derek’s friends at a little diner called Elmo’s. Then we saw tons of BBC people. We went to Buffalo’s with Tim, Gloria, Dennis and Susan. Yummy. They’ve “upped” their Hotness Scale and I’m fighting some […]

Cookie Madness!

Posted on December 8, 2003February 10, 2011by sarah

I’ve been making crazy amounts of Christmas cookies. I made (alcohol free) rum balls, no bake oatmeal cookies, puppy chow, chocolate chip, chocolate coconut bars, gingerbread and hershey’s kiss peanut butter cookies. I got some BAD recipes from christmas-cookies.com. I’m publicly denouncing them here. Less than two weeks until we head to NY for Christmas […]
