june and july rolled by fast. and then. it was august. and there were beach preparations. and school preparations. and, well, without further ado, here’s 25 pictures from auguest. anna picked out this fantastic light up backpack for school. park playdate. before the friends arrived. a moment of getting along. this girl can stand. from […]
baking
the other things that have been happening lately.

besides anna turning four, hazel turning five months, the strawberry picking and the butterfly growing, these are some pics of what’s been happening around here… hazel is fast outgrowing the bumbo seat. she can almost turn herself completely around in it. and she rocks violently and it slides across the table. and this: test run […]
super fast update.

i’m going to race to caption these photos and then get to bed. homeschooling… another post with details to come soon. soonish. hazel’s starting to get grabby. we made cookies. and ate a LOT of cookie dough. perfect cookies. thanks to the cookie scoop. anna got a substantial haircut. the tangled mess was becoming ridiculous. […]
cake tests, painting, baby teeth

it’s time! for another post of hijacked instagram pictures… before i committed to making lego man cakes for a group of small children, i did a trial run, to see if i could handle the task. the frosted version. frosting was tedious, but i was pretty sure i could handle it on a smallish scale. […]
the lego birthday party.

for some reason, i thought it would be a good idea to have a birthday party in our home. with a newborn. with six boys. ages 6 and 7. and make individual cakes for the kids to decorate. i’m obviously not thinking clearly in my sleep deprived state. here’s how it went. earlier this week, […]
oh you know, just some random pics…

when we found ourselves with an extra weekend before hazel arrived, we tried to do some fun things with the kids… like christmas shaped pancakes with some sprinkles… check out anna’s sweet pigtails… the wink of approval… after the appointment where we scheduled the induction of a super late hazel, i returned home to find […]
cookie mayhem. 2013 edition.

ok. so, knowing hazel was making an early december arrival, i knew i wouldn’t be making a bunch of christmas cookies, as i have in years past. but, i definitely wanted to make cut out cookies with the kids, because that’s super fun, and i didn’t want hazel to steal all of the christmas thunder… […]
this is just how i blog now.

i know when i’ve been defeated. i can admit it. posting once every week or so, and just throwing up a bunch of captioned pics seems to be the way things are going now. and i’m ok with it. this blog post will be no different. it goes back about two and a half weeks […]
christmas cookie elves.

last weekend, i gathered up mountains of flour and butter and sugar and chocolate and sprinkles and went to work baking cookies with (and mostly without) the lid kid elves. i started out making cutout sugar cookie dough. anna was quite helpful (she just ate sugar, mostly). isaac was not interested. they proved to be […]
calvin cougar club cupcakes

Last Wednesday, I was the “guest speaker” at Ike’s school for their calvin cougar club (on Wednesday, they stay an hour longer and have guest speakers, demos, etcetera). I talked about making and decorating cupcakes. I also provided cupcakes, frosting and sprinkles for them to decorate their own cupcake. And eat it. 54 preschoolers. 🙂 […]
